U K      P L A Y E R S  DUB REGGAE BAND

In a country where digital dub has ruled the roost for the past decade,

InI Oneness & the UK Players are a breath of fresh air.

Very much a live band; InI Oneness & the UK Players have been working together

since the summer of '97, and have clocked up over 200 gigs to date.

They have released a 7" single called 'Further'

and more recently the acclaimed debut album 'Take Heed'

Another LP/CD is awaiting to mixed.

Now Returning back on Rd, Look out for this Band in a venue concert near you soon,

The UK Players are a hard steppin' five piece roots reggae dub band originating from the West Country. The members met in 1996 at a weekly reggae session held in Salisbury, where the seeds were sown to form a band. They rehearsed 2-3 times a week and cut their teeth on the local live music circuit, quickly developing their sound and crowd. The band recorded their debut single 'Further' at Jah Works Studio. Produced by Rej Forte, with Idren Natural on lead vocals. The release led to a tour of the UK and so began a lengthy liaison with InI Oneness. The band have supported such artists as Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Iration Steppa,Junior Delgado, Dreadzone,. Over the years and 100's of gigs later they have developed their own unique sound and are well versatile at adapting/interpreting rhythms to suit a vocalists needs, as their work with InI Oneness, Wayne McArthur, Tony Roots and Barry Isaacs shows. They can also hold an audience tight with their dub instrumentals. Their debut album 'Take Heed' featuring InI Oneness was released in the summer 2000. Once again produced and mixed by Rej Forte. In 2003 UK Players took a 2 year break, now returning with a new Original set, Well worth checking out. Definitely one of the most hardworking and exciting new bands in the reggae world right now.

The UK Players are a young dub reggae band from South England. Jamie J, Jah Roots, Steve Ez,

Choppa and Matty Marvel are known for excellent live shows which I can only testify. Their 2000

debut features the I'n'I Oneness posse with I Natural and Ras Iyah who also tour with them.

The CD was recorded without computers, sequencers or drum machines.

All instruments are played live. The sound quality is good although the bass isn't as fat as live.

12 tracks (and one not mentioned extra bonus) can be found on the CD: 5 vocal tracks

(4 with dub versions), 1 instrumental with a dub plus one pure dub.

The opener "Jah Light" shows right at the beginning what you can expect.

A cool stepper with nice keyboard and guitar melodies.

The version is a bit dirtier. "Upful Ites" is the first vocal cut and it has a nice chorus.

The nice thing in this CD is that they printed the lyrics in the booklet.

Now I finally can understand better what they sing about.

All religious and conscious lyrics.

The version is like a running dub and Choppa plays some howling guitar licks.

"Give Thanks" is a different styler which comes extremely cool, very rootical.

The live instruments are really something different than the usual computer works

(which I like too, of course). After the version follows "Hurricane" a pure dub.

It's a very fast stepper with the main ingredients guitar while the bass needs some time

to really come into the song. Jah Roots adds some percussion flavour and Matty Marvel(lous)

shakes the whole thing with some offbeats.

"Push I Over", the next song starts with some horns and cool keyboard skanks.

Again a four to the floor beat and lyrics against the wicked man.

The dub has a longer percussion intro before it starts. "More Warrior"

then with great vocalists. A very intensive song, running fast forward, leaded by a wicked bassline.

"Take Heed" slows the whole thing down again. Starting with guitar as lead instrument,

soon I Natural brings us some more wise lyrics. The riddim (especially the keyboard)

fits perfectly to the vocals and it's one of those nice skanking songs.
